In a game for the baseball purist, Kevin Millwood(1-0) and Tom Glavine(0-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Atlanta Braves finally emerged
victorious over Boston Red Sox, 3 to 1.

Millwood gave Atlanta a solid outing.  He went 6 and 1/3 innings surrendering
3 hits and 3 walks.  Millwood whiffed an impressive total of 9 Boston
batters.  Boston threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

fought contest.

Boston set the tone of the game in the first inning plating an isolated run on
2 hits.  John Smoltz was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 1st
save.
