Mike Lowell launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Florida Marlins defeated
the Arizona team 11 to 4 at PNC Park.

Lowell provided much of the offense. He laced a single in the 2nd inning,
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 3rd inning, doubled which plated a run
in the 5th inning, stroked a one-base hit scoring a run in the 6th inning and
ripped a solo home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Florida
had 14 hits overall, while Arizona had 8.

Pat Hentgen(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 3
runs. Scot Shields(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 gopher balls
in 4 innings.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Lowell said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting you
out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'

Curt Schilling racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts as the Arizona
ballclub defeated the Florida Marlins by the score of 2 to 1 at Fenway
Park.

Schilling(1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Florida offense. He
was stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
Arizona banged out 8 on the night.

Kyle Farnsworth(0-1) was the loser in relief. Schilling, when asked about his
11 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get
20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since
we won it feels great!'
