Mark Prior whiffed 10 batters as the Cleveland Indians destroyed the San
Francisco Giants by a score of 16 to 5 at Pro Player Stadium.
Manny Ramirez provided the offensive punch. He lifted one out of the park for
a two run home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 5th inning and slapped a
one-base hit which was good for two runs in the 7th inning. Cleveland lit up
the scoreboard in the 7th inning with 4 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning
when they had 6 runs on 4 hits. Overall Cleveland out-hit San Francisco 18
to 6.
The victory went to Prior(2-0) who went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs. Jerome
Williams(0-1) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 3
walks in 6 innings.
Prior was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
