WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Richard Hidalgo robbed Ben Broussard of an extra base hit.

In a thriller the St. Louis Cardinals staged a dramatic comeback then held on
to win over the Anaheim Angels by a score of 4 to 3 at Edison Int'l
Field.

St. Louis had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Carlos Baerga keyed the
rally when he banged out a single. Jeromy Burnitz followed and he blasted a
two-run home run (his 1st of the season). Despite losing, Anaheim out-hit
St. Louis 13 to 8.

The victory was credited to Damaso Marte(2-0) who went 2/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Marte got help from Troy Percival who was credited with his
4th save. Jorge Julio(1-2) ended up with the loss in relief.

Blaise Castren was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us tonight'
