Catcher Jorge Posada had 2 base hits as the Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh
Pirates by a score of 6 to 3.

Atlanta had 3 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning when they had 3 base
hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Jeff Davanon who disappointed the
partisan crowd when he doubled scoring two baserunners.  Shingo Takatsu
relieved and was untouched by Pittsburgh as he recorded the save, his 3rd.

The win was credited to John Thomson(2-0) who went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Matt Clement(1-1) took the loss.  He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving
up 6 hits and 7 walks.

In an embarrassing outing for the Pittsburgh Pirates pitching staff, Atlanta
Braves flexed their collective muscle amassing 15 runs as Rich
Harden(2-1)with support from the bullpen allowed Pittsburgh 5 runs.

Mike Lamb had a good evening at the plate.  He doubled in the 2nd inning,
belted a three-run homer (his 2nd of the season) in the 3rd inning and banged
out a single in the 7th inning.  Atlanta lit up the scoreboard in the 7th
inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits.  Atlanta had 16 hits for the
night while Pittsburgh had 10.  

Barry Zito(0-2) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the
Atlanta offense and allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Pittsburgh jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an
isolated run on 2 hits.  Kris Benson(2-0) got relief help from Brad Lidge who
was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 4th save.  

Kevin Millwood(0-1) ended up with the loss.  'It wasn't my best outing, but
I'll take the win' Benson said.

In a dramatic ending at Jacobs Field the Atlanta Braves won in their last
at-bat beating the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 9 to 8.

The game was won by Atlanta with a run in the 9th inning.  Jorge Posada drew a
walk.  Doug Mirabelli stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.  Michael
Tucker then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Reed Johnson followed and he slapped
a base-hit resulting in an exciting win for Atlanta and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  This was the kind of game that many fans
love as the lead changed hands 5 times.  

Shingo Takatsu(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Randy
Choate(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He surrendered no hits and 3 walks
in 1 inning.

First baseman Frank Thomas hit a homerun and had 2 RBI and John Thomson took a
no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Atlanta Braves outscored the Pittsburgh
Pirates 12 to 4.

Thomson(3-0) gave a fine effort for Atlanta.  He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in
5 and 2/3 innings.  The right-handed Thomson had his no-hit bid broken up by
Jose Vidro who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.  Atlanta had 14
hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 5.  

Matt Clement(1-2) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 6
walks in 4 innings.
