Jake Westbrook(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for St. Louis.  He
allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  Kansas City threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.  

Westbrook got help from Chad Cordero who was credited with his 1st save.  Dan
Haren(0-1) suffered the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 2 walks

At Kauffman Stadium, the Kansas City fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Dontrelle Willis(1-0) finally bested his Kansas City opposite, Paul
Byrd(0-1), by the score of 4 to 0.

Kansas City never recovered after St. Louis took the lead in the top of the
6th inning with 2 runs on 4 hits.  Placido Polanco led off the inning for St.
Louis when he smacked a single.  J.D. Drew followed and he slapped a
base-hit.  Paul Konerko then doubled.  Jim Edmonds stepped in and he
delivered a single.  Melvin Mora got his turn next, but he was a strikeout
victim.  Russell Branyan was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.  Jason
Lane next to the plate and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Overall St.
Louis out-hit Kansas City 10 to 6.  

Chad Cordero earned the save, his 2nd. The losing pitcher was Byrd.  He
surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings.

The Kansas City Royals nipped the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 3 at Bank One
Ballpark in a hard fought contest.

The game was decided in the 9th inning. Carlos Beltran lashed a single.  Two
outs later Joe Mauer stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.  John
Rodriguez then stroked a base-hit.  Kansas City had 11 hits for the game and
St. Louis had 8.  

The win was credited to Kyle Farnsworth(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no
runs. Huston Street gained credit for his 1st save.  Jake Westbrook(1-1) was
hit with the loss.

pitcher's duel.  Paul Byrd(1-1) finally bested his St. Louis counterpart,
Dontrelle Willis(1-1), by the score of 2 to 0.

St. Louis was unable to recover after Kansas City went ahead in the top of the
5th inning scoring a single run utilizing 3 base hits.  Kansas City rapped
out 9 hits for the night.  

Byrd got relief help from Huston Street who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Willis ended up with the loss.  He allowed 9 hits and no walks in 9 innings.

City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 5 to 3.

The game started off with Kansas City taking the lead in the first as they
scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Matt Lecroy
who brought a roar from the partisan Kauffman Stadium fans when he smashed a
