Orlando Hernandez took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and shortstop Carlos
Guillen lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Miller Park as the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings 4 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Pittsburgh came out on top in the 10th
inning. After two were out Guillen started the attack as he ripped a single.
Justin Morneau stepped into the batter's box and he bombed a two-run dinger
making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
Pittsburgh finished with 10 hits while Atlanta ended up with 5.
Rafael Perez(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. The right-handed Hernandez had his no-hit bid broken up by Derek
Jeter who doubled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Aaron Heilman(0-1) was
the loser in relief. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and no
walks.

In a thrilling finish the Atlanta Braves won in dramatic fashion coming back
to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 5 to 4.
Atlanta scored the winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
Frank Thomas led off and started the attack as he ripped a base-hit. Ryan
Church stepped into the batter's box and he doubled. After an out was
recorded, Grady Sizemore stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk to load
the bases. Derek Jeter stepped in and he drew a walk. Chipper Jones came up
to bat and drew a walk. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night.
The win went to Lee Gardner(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Manny
Corpas(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. 'Now that is what I call fun! I
just love baseball, especially games like this, of course,' Todd Melton
offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go
wild there at the end?!'
