Johan Santana allowed Jim Mott to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Fred Lewis had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Anaheim
Angels by the score of 9 to 3 at Edison Int'l Field.

Pittsburgh jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring one
runner.  Pittsburgh had a total of 11 hits for the game.  

The winning pitcher was Santana(1-0) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Armando
Galarraga(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He was unable to control the
Pittsburgh offense and allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.

The Anaheim Angels and the Pittsburgh Pirates locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Edison Int'l Field.  The final score was the Anaheim Angels 3, the
Pittsburgh Pirates 2 in 10 innings.

The score was tied at 2 after nine. Anaheim came out on top in the 10th
inning.  Jason Bartlett drew a walk.  Bartlett was safe at second on a stolen
base.  Anaheim continued their aggressive style with another stolen base.
Maicer Izturis was up next and he slapped a single giving Anaheim the win and
sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  Both teams totaled 7 hits on the
afternoon.  

The victory was credited to Takashi Saito(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. J.P. Howell(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the Anaheim
Angels bested the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 2 at Miller Park.

Anaheim claimed the early lead in the first inning plating 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits.  Skip Schumaker kicked off the action when he doubled.  Hardy
stepped into the batter's box and he doubled.  Nick Markakis then drew a
walk.  After an out was recorded, Troy Glaus came up and he drew a walk to
load the bases.  Bobby Abreu came to the plate and banged out a single.
Bengie Molina contributed to the rally and grounded into a double play.  The
Pittsburgh batters didn't put up a fight in the bottom of the 9th.  

Kyle Davies(1-0) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Davies
got relief help from Joe Nathan who gained credit for his 1st save.  Shaun
Marcum(0-1) took the loss.  

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Davies said.

Bobby Abreu cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Anaheim Angels topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates in 14 innings by a score of 8 to 6 at Miller Park.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.  Anaheim won the hard fought
contest in the 14th inning.  Jose Guillen led off and keyed the rally when he
slapped a one-base hit.  J.J. Hardy stepped up to the plate and he drew a
walk.  Nick Markakis then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Mark Teixeira came up
and he delivered a base-hit.  Teixeira took second on the throw.  Troy Glaus
got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  Abreu was
next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  Anaheim had 15 hits for the
night while Pittsburgh had 11.  

Kyle Davies(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Ramon Ramirez(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.
