Right fielder Jason Heyward slammed 2 homeruns and scored 3 times and Shaun
Marcum went 9 strong innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates really laid it on the
Seattle Mariners 14 to 1.

Heyward enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning and
delivered a single in the 9th inning. The Pittsburgh offense smacked the
Seattle pitching staff around, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Marcum(1-0) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Justin Verlander(0-1)
was charged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 3 and 2/3 innings.

John Ferraro was obviously impressed with the pitching of Marcum, 'That guy
made us look a little silly out there tonight. We just couldn't get to him
at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that kinda
performance out of his system.'
