Tommy Hanson whiffed 11 batters as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Kansas
City Royals in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 0.
No runners had crossed home plate after the regulation nine. Los Angeles won
the game in the 10th inning. Miguel Cabrera started the inning off right
when he reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Chris Heisey stepped
in and he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Geovany Soto followed, but
he was set down on strikes. Los Angeles had only 6 hits for the game.
The winning pitcher was Hanson(2-0) who allowed no runs in 9 innings. Neftali
Feliz was credited with his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Josh
Tomlin(0-1). He allowed just 6 hits and no walks in 9 and 1/3 innings.
Hanson was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd
when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running
tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -
but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
