Justin Verlander pitched a 3 hit shutout at Petco Park as the Seattle Mariners
beat the New York Yankees 3 to 0.

Verlander(5-0) was on top of his game. He allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9
innings. Verlander racked up 12 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 1.54 to
1.23. Seattle banged out 9 hits on the night.

Jake Peavy(0-2) was the losing pitcher. Verlander didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 12 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
