Washington Nationals. The score was 7 to 1.

Washington was unable to claim the lead after St. Louis went ahead in the 3rd
inning when they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was
all that Francisco Liriano(2-0) required. Overall St. Louis out-hit
Washington 9 to 6.

Taijuan Walker(0-1) took the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 6
hits and 1 walk.

Danny Salazar reeled off a total of 12 strikeouts and Logan Forsythe homered
and had 3 RBI as the smoking-hot St. Louis Cardinals outscored the Washington
Nationals 5 to 4.

Salazar(1-0) pitched well for St. Louis in their victory. He was reached for 9
hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Washington tried unsuccessfully to come back
in the 9th.

Salazar got help from Wade Davis who was credited with his 4th save. The
losing pitcher was Cole Hamels(1-2). He pitched 7 innings and surrendered
just 4 hits and 1 walk.

'He was really impressive tonight,' Hamels said of his counterpart. 'Our guys
were just swinging at air.'
