Jeff McNeil cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and Jeff Samardzija dominated
striking out 10 Cleveland batters at Petco Park where the New York Yankees
beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 7 to 1.
 
Samardzija(1-0) was tremendous on the mound for New York.  He didn't allow
much, just 2 hits and no walks in 8 innings.  New York finished with 12 hits
while Cleveland ended up with 2.  
 
Walker Buehler(0-1) was the loser.  He was knocked around by New York,
allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  Samardzija was jubilant in
the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there.  The fans gave me a
lot of support as did my teammates.  We got the victory and I'll sure take 10
strikeouts anytime!'

Justin Verlander mowed down 12 New York batters at Petco Park as the Cleveland
Indians beat the New York Yankees by the count of 4 to 3.
 
Verlander(1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the New York offense.
He allowed only 2 hits and no walks in 6 innings.  Neither team was able to
score until the 7th inning.  
 
Verlander got help from Sergio Romo who earned his 1st save.  Shane
Bieber(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  While he was the losing pitcher, he
still struck out 11 batters in 6 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'I had my good stuff today.' Verlander said. 'As the game went along I started
to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

Buehler(1-1) pitched a solid game.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits
and 4 walks and surrendered 2 homeruns.  Buehler was helped out by Sergio
Romo who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 2nd save.  
 
Jeff Samardzija(1-1) was the loser.  He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits in 4 and 2/3
innings.  'Everything felt great' Buehler said. 'I had a good fastball, I
felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

Justin Verlander racked up an impressive total of 13 strikeouts as the
Cleveland Indians outscored the New York Yankees 1 to 0.
 
Verlander(2-0) was in control of the game from the outset.  He allowed just 5
hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings.  New York threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.  
 
Verlander was helped out by Scott Barlow who recorded his 1st save.  Shane
Bieber(0-2) ended up with the loss.  He was stingy with the baserunners,
allowing just 3 hits and no walks in 7 innings.
 
'I had my good stuff tonight.' Verlander said. 'As the game went along I
started to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of
hitters.'
