Alec Bohm had 3 base hits and Shane Bieber struck out 17 batters as the New
York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 6 to 3 at
Marlins Park.

Bieber(1-0) put on a good performance. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. New York had 8 hits for the night while
Washington had 5.

Bieber got help from Anthony Bass who earned his 1st save. Sonny Gray(0-1)
was charged with the loss. Bieber didn't realize how many strikeouts he was
racking up. When told he had 17 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding?
Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that
many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'

Max Fried didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning and center fielder Byron
Buxton lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Washington
Nationals rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over New York
Yankees, 2 to 1.

Washington came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs.
Mike Trout led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Buxton stepped
into the batter's box and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home
run resulting in an exciting win for Washington and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. The game was a scoreless duel until the
8th inning.

The victory was credited to Kwang Hyun Kim(1-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing no runs. The left-handed Fried lost a no-hitter when Carlos Correa
doubled with one out in the 6th inning. Anthony Bass(0-1) was the loser in
relief.

'That was exciting!,' Buxton said. 'I would have paid money to watch this
one.'
