Gerrit Cole reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the New York Yankees topped
the Seattle Mariners by a score of 5 to 2 at RingCentral Coliseum.

Cole(1-0) pitched a fine game.  He went 7 innings surrendering 4 hits and 2
walks and gave up 2 homeruns.  Neither team managed to score after the 4th
inning.  

Emmanuel Clase earned his 3rd save.  Justin Verlander(1-1) absorbed the loss.
He allowed 5 runs and 11 hits in 7 innings.  'I had my good stuff tonight.'
Cole said. 'As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was
going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

42,788 fans were treated to a fine game at RingCentral Coliseum as only one
run separated the combatants at game's end.  The New York Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  Finally, New York
pulled the game out in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Kyle
Farmer drew a walk.  George Springer followed and he drew a walk.  Bryan De
La Cruz then ripped a base-knock scoring the run.  De La Cruz took second on
the throw.  Seattle went down quietly in the bottom of the 10th.  

Bryan Baker(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Emmanuel Clase was credited with his 4th save.  Ryan Helsley(0-1) suffered
the loss in relief.  He struck out 4 batters in 1 and 1/3 innings despite
losing the game.

Center fielder Trent Grisham slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Michael King
went 4 solid innings at Petco Park where the Seattle Mariners beat the New

game in the 17th inning.  Ke'Bryan Hayes drew a walk.  After an out was
recorded, Edward Cabrera then uncorked a wild pitch.  Trayce Thompson then
hit a deep fly scoring the run.  Seattle had 16 hits overall, while New York
had 11.  

The win was credited to Edwin Diaz(1-0) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.
