The tension started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified. Boston had only 5 hits for the night. The win went to Pedro Martinez(3-0) who allowed no runs in 7 innings. John Smoltz earned his 5th save. Barry Zito(1-2) was the loser. He surrendered just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. 'You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this happening,' said Martinez who got credit for the win, 'I don't expect it to sink in for awhile.' he said. 'You know, it's hard to say who was better, the starter or the bullpen!' |
