The Washington Nationals won by a final score of 4 to 0. Hamels had overwhelming stuff tonight. He simply never gave the Minnesota batters a decent pitch to drive. He walked 3 Minnesota batters. The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Hamels appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Hamels recorded 12 strikeouts. Washington managed 13 hits in their victory. Bartolo Colon(4-4) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 12 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. It took a while to pry Hamels way from his teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy. Finally, however, Angelo Primo got to offer his own congratulations with a big bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have seen in all my years in baseball - Hamels was masterful out there tonight!' |
